Joanne's image "BrainSTORM" wins the 2016 QBI Art in Neuroscience People's Choice Award. Congratulations! A big shout out to those who had voted!
Our current Masters student, Tianyi, receives the 2016 Academic Excellence Medal from the School of Natural Sciences, Griffith University, for ranking 1st in the entire BSc cohort in that year. Congrats!
Congratulations to Jocelyn and Iris for being awarded the highly competitive Discovery Early Career Researcher (DECRA) Fellowships from ARC. Jocelyn will investigate the role of epitranscriptomic regulation in synaptic plasticity, while Iris will elucidate the mechanisms underlying glutamate receptor trafficking in central neurons.
Victor also receives an ARC Discovery Project Grant to study the molecular mechanims of synaptic vesicle recycling (with Prof. Mike Cousin, The University of Edinburgh, UK). Iris receives the 2016 CJCADR Best Paper Award (Postdoc Category) for her recent work published in Nature Communications. Congratulations!
Jocelyn and Victor publish an article in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, a collaborative paper led by A/Prof. Brett Collins (IMB, UQ). This study reports a mechanism of cargo selection by the unique "electrostatic clamp" in the PDZ domain of sorting nexin 27.
Jocelyn and Joanne publish an article in Scientific Reports, revealing a dual function of PACSIN1 in regulating the internalisation and recycling of AMPA receptors in hippocampal neurons.
Our collaborative work led by Jocelyn is now published in Journal of Neuroscience. This paper provides the first evidence for the dynamic nature of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification on RNA in the mouse prefrontal cortex during memory consolidation.
Joanne earns one of the limited spots at the CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Course on Neuronal Cell Biology - Cytoskeleton and Trafficking, to be held in Bordeaux Neurocampus, Bordeaux, France, on 10-31 July 2016. Congratulations!
Victor receives a Young Investigator Award from the Asian-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry to present the lab findings at their annual meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this year.
Sumasri and Jocelyn publish an article in Neural Plasticity, reviewing the mechanims underlying dysregulation of AMPA receptor trafficking induced by amyloid-beta.
Victor receives a Neuroscience 2016 Travel Grant from the Japan Neuroscience Society to present our research work at their annual meeting in Yokohama.
Victor publishes a paper in Cell Reports describing a novel role for diacylglycerol kinase-theta (DGKθ) in synaptic vesicle recycling
The lab receives three NHMRC Project Grants to investigate molecular mechanisms of NMDA receptor trafficking (with A/Prof. Brett Collins, UQ), to determine the mechanisms underlying recovery from general anaesthesia (with A/Prof. Bruno van Swinderen, UQ) and to explore the role of vitamin D in regulating L-type voltage-gated calcium channel function (with Prof. John McGrath, UQ).
Jocelyn publishes a paper in Human Genetics on the potential role of GTF2IRD1 in chromatin remodelling. This has the implication on our understanding of neurodevelopmental disorder, Williams Beuren Syndrome.
Victor's entry, "In Search of Memory", receives a highly commended in the 2015 New Scientist Eureka Prize for Science Photography. Check out the amazing scenes in Biology here.
Victor receives the 2015 Young Scientist Award from the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB). This triennial award allows Victor to present lectures at the 14th FAOBMB Congress and Young Scientist Program in Hyderabad, India later in November.
Sumasri also receives a highly competitive University of Queensland International scholarship. Congrats!
Jocelyn, Ye Jin and Yu Qian publish their research in Cell Reports. Congratulations! [Press Release]
The lab receives an AADRF Project Grant. Many thanks to the Alzheimer's Australia Dementia Research Foundation for the generous support.
Victor with collaborators in Johns Hopkins publish a paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA on the role of sorting nexin 27 in regulating AMPA receptor trafficking.
Joanne receives a First Class Honours for her thesis and ranks 1st in her cohort. To top the icing on the cake, she secured the highly competitive University of Queensland International Scholarship. What a fantastic year!
